The Mission EXP Backpack - 30L has all the capabilities of its larger sibling in a slightly more compact size. The versatile internal frame pack, equipped with adjustable arc zip storage, provides 17 pockets for optimal organization of your gear. Its modular and customizable design allows for the addition of G-Mod Flat Pouches and Pod Pouches for compact items like passports, AirPods, and electronics. With two Expanse BottleDrop™ pockets and a BottleLock® tie-down system, carrying a Grayl and other essentials has never been easier. For carrying extra water, the pack also includes an internal hydration reservoir cinch pocket and hose outlet pass-thru holes. The backpack also features a convenient side-entry pocket to protect your laptop with ample padding and additional storage. Made from 100% recycled materials, durable stretch woven fabrics, YKK Aquaguard® water-resistant zippers, and premium hardware. Choose from three sizes - 35L, 30L, and 25L - to suit your specific needs.

"I ordered the mission 30L backpack. Although I returned it because it was a bit bigger than what I was expecting for my needs, it is definitely built very well and super functional. As a well-seasoned outdoorsman and mountaineer I would suggest a couple of things to the company concerning this product. First off the waist belt strap is too small (1in. ), it should be 2 in minimum or bigger, secondly the straps underneath of the back are great for a water bottle but should be longer for use of a small sleeping bag or tent. And lastly for being just a 30L pac it is heavy at 4. 35lbs empty (on my precision scale). *Shave 1. 5 lbs somehow, a little strap modification and this would be perfection. I was in need of a small day pac is why I originally purchased it and would purchase it again if these issues were fixed and I wanted a mid range pac."

"I got this backpack after seeing one at REI. I'd never heard of Grayl, but I loved that the pack had lots of pockets and places for attachments and add-ons. After using it for a few weeks, I love it. It's big and spacious, but not so big I can't use it for work. It is really sturdy and well-designed and I love the aesthetics of it. Highly recommend."

"Organization is really nice with this bag. The stitching, zippers, and build quality is excellent. Fits great on my frame as well. However, the waist belt is too thin/small in my opinion. Having a removable belt would be better. The exterior water pouches are nice but really don’t hold the large Grayl water bottle w/ the Pathfinder nesting cup. Otherwise I’ve enjoyed my first few trips with the bag."

"Dislike the price for such a small bag. If you included a grayl water filter/purifier that would make it more reasonable. Would like to purchase the bag but the price is way too much. Can get other bags for half the price. Would use this for overnight hikes."

Amazing, if you are in the ideal fit range

"The Mission Exp 30L is a really impressive pack with tons of features I would use. The problem is that it is a one size fits all pack and despite adjusting everything properly, the shoulder straps do not conform to my shoulders - they flare out on the outsides putting the pressure on the inside edge. I am 5'7" so I may fall under the ideal fitment zone. If this came in sizes, I would be carrying this everywhere. Unfortunately I think I'll have to return it and go with something that can be sized for the user a bit more."

Great weekend pack GRAYL Mission EXP 30L

"I’ve been using the GRAYL Mission EXP 30L for a few weeks now, and it’s quickly become my go-to pack for both day hikes and weekend trips. The build quality is bombproof—feels like it could survive anything—and the materials are clearly top-notch. I love how easy it is to organize gear with all the internal and external pockets, and the BottleLock system holds my grayl titanium bottle tight, even when scrambling. The durability and layout make this pack my GoTo. Also, the tactical look is actually pretty cool in person. Overall, super solid pack—perfect for weekend travel or backcountry use."

Q&A

Is the hip belt removable on the mission 30L pack?
The 30L and 35L Mission Hip Packs are the only backpacks and day packs Grayl produces that do NOT feature a removable waist belt. The lumbar system and waist belt are integrally linked together at the hip to create the best all around full-featured pack Grayl offers as of Fall 2025.
Is the material waterproof
